There are a lot of horse products that are a necessity, and there are several that are nice to have but not a must. When it comes horse grooming one group of necessities is a collection of horse grooming brushes.
Contrary to what some believe, horse grooming is not just required for horses that are going to be on the show circuit. Horses need to be groomed as part of proper care for them and to help enhance their health.
Basic grooming will include bathing the horse on occasion, but this can be kept to a minimum if the horse is brushed properly and regularly. There are different types of horse brushes and combs that come within this classification.
A curry comb
At first, to a new horse groomer, the curry comb may look like a dangerous horse product. It is usually made of metal or a hard plastic that has a row of teeth along one side of it, and the other side is the handle. The purpose of the curry comb is to be able to get down to the bottom layers of the horsehair near the skin and gently loosen the debris and dead hair and bring them to the surface. Many horses actually enjoy the curry comb being used on them if done properly.
Brushes
The two most common brushes that come under the title of grooming horse products are the Dandy brush and the soft body brush. The Dandy brush has stiff bristles whereas the body brush is softer.
There are a few other essential grooming horse products like a good quality hoof pick to use for grooming the horse’s feet.
